Theresa May has led tributes to the Prince of Wales on the heir to the throne's 70th birthday.

The Prince’s milestone birthday was marked by the firing of gun salutes, while he spent the day working at Clarence House ahead of a black tie party hosted by the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

Opening a Commons debate on Wednesday held in honour of the occasion, the Prime Minister said that the future king had spent 70 years "defying expectations and refusing to be categorised".

Seventeen migrants who stole French trawler and crossed the Channel arrested in Dover

UK border police have arrested 17 migrants who stole a French fishing trawler, crossed the Channel and reached the UK coast overnight in an “unprecedented operation”.

The migrants, all Iranian and including three minors, broke into the 12-metre (40ft) boat in the northern French port of Boulogne-sur-mer on Monday night.

The French coastguard spotted the trawler taking a “bizarre” route across the world’s busiest waterway at around 9.30pm local time in calm seas.

The persecution of Christians is being ignored because there is no definitive word to describe it, an Archbishop has said.

Anba Angaelos, Coptic Orthodox Archbishop of London, argued that because there is no Christian equivalent for words such as anti-Semitism and Islamophobia the problem was “not seen as the phenomenon which we know it is”.

A Liverpool woman was reunited with her lost purse thanks to the kindness of strangers.

Student Molly Lambert, 20, from Aigburth, realised she had lost her purse - which had £200 wages and £200 worth of vouchers in - after a visit to the Odeon in Liverpool ONE .

She told the ECHO: “I emptied my bag and searched the toilets, my friends and I went back into the screen and the cleaners helped to look, but it was nowhere to be found.”

War hero James Cockram received an honour of the highest order from Britain's wartime allies France, in a recent ceremony held in Merseyside.

Lydiate Classic Car and Bike Show to run for ninth year

This year marks the ninth Lydiate classic car and bike show, a fantastic fundraising event for local charity North West Cancer Research (NWCR).

Organised as a team effort by the Brown and Blundell families and a whole host of helpers and participants, the show raises thousands every year providing vital funds for a great cause.

In 2015, the show raised more than £3,235 for NWCR which is the region’s leading cancer charity.
